Other Good Plugins

Posted January 18th, 2007 by Mike Cherim

There are hundreds of plugins available for WordPress as can be found in the Extend WordPress section of their site. Some are quality plugins, others are not. Some will likely be able to be implemented with ease using this theme, while others will not. Below are a couple I use on this blog that are worth noting as I know they work well with this theme:

Bad Behavior

The is an anti-comment spam plugin that I find works rather well. It is in use here even though most posts are closed to comments. The Bad Behavior plugin offers the option of displaying their link and stats on the footer (see below) and this theme supports that in the style sheet and placement of bit of code, “wp_footer()” in the footer designed for such things as plugins. The code bit is in a div with the ID of “wp-footer” and this resides in the style sheet ready for use if needed. (Same applies to sidebar plugins with a “wp-sidebar” div for the “wp_meta()” function.) This plugin is not provided with this theme, but if you want it and want to learn more, check out the Bad Behavior site.

Run PHP

If you want to execute PHP scripting within your posts and pages — something I do on occasion — a plugin like “Run PHP” makes it possible. This is a simple plugin to use and it requires nothing as it pertains to display. Simply install it, activate it, then publish executable PHP scripting within your posts and pages. To get this plugin or to learn more, check out the Run PHP site.
