All About Stuff…

On this page I will go into a little more detail about some of that which goes into the creation of my web site and blog projects. It’s quite important that these things are made properly. Otherwise it is quite possible you will accidentally exclude or inadvertently diminish the experience of one or more of your site’s visitors.

What Mike Does

I have a wide skill set, what with having roamed the earth for longer than I care to admit. But specifically, as it pertains to web site and blog development and design, I write only the strictest, most standards-compliant mark-up or coding. Namely: XHTML 1.0 and HTML 4.01. For presentation and layout of pages, I use what’s called CSS. To make it all work and make it simple to keep up-to-date and reduce bandwidth and user-resources, I employ a server-side programming language called PHP. In general, I make accessible, standards-compliant, usable designs that are visually striking while being considerate to the largest segment of the population possible.

How Mike Does It

Using the skills mentioned above I build web sites, blogs, and templates which comply with web standards, are coded in a proper semantic way, separate presentation, from behavior, from the code, and I also draw out the content. I meticulously hand code the sites I make, but I still prepare them in a very modular way, enhancing their extensibility. I design sites with strong emphasis on usability, accessibility, legacy- and cross-browser and machine (screen readers, etc.) compatibility, and I also optimize them, for speed and performance, and also for search engines so you can be found quickly — which is important if your site is affiliated with or in support of a business. Lastly, but still of great importance, I make sites with design in mind at all times. My sites must look great while meeting all of the other self-imposed standards I subscribe to. Standards-compliance and accessibility do not mean boring. And I am just the person to prove it.

Mike Charges What?!

Relax, I don’t charge as much as one would think for this level of quality, extensibility, and accessibility. At this time my pricing begins at around $70-$90 per hour, depending on the scope of the work to be performed. Full project costs are less and estimates are provided (comps are not). Some costs depend on your involvement and support of the project. The more willing you are to supply my needs throughout the process, the better we will do as a team, the more you will save, and the better your site or blog will be in the end. I do prefer to have complete creative license. I like to be set free to do my thing. And I don’t dissappoint. But your support is beneficial.
