Chat Beast

Posted March 31st, 2005 by Mike Cherim

So he tells me: “Mike, check out what I’ve made in his usual modest way.” I do, and “Wow” is all I can say. The “he” I refer to is my friend Jonathan — who I consider a PHP guru of sorts. The thing he asks me to check out is a tidy little web application he made which he calls Chategory. It’s a free shareware chat application that is really loaded with features. Such as:

  • Full adminstrative control with Admin control panel
  • Security features, with chat lockdown
  • Moderator assingments with Mod control panel
  • Variable “rights” assignment to Mod functions
  • User data logging and activity recording
  • And it doesn’t use a database — it’s self-supporting
  • Complete error functioning to disallow circumventions
  • It’s written to the HTML 4.01 Strict specification
  • Simple semantic layout with styles controlled by a CSS
  • And it fully supports the use of UBBC
  • And more… (yeah, I had to add that)

Want to check out my custom styled version? Go ahead and Launch Chat Beast. Please register and chat to me. If I’m there I’ll chat back. If not, well, consider it a guest book of sorts. High tech, albeit.
