On and on goes the Book Baton
I was just handed a “Book Baton” from Martin Neczypor, the man behind Neczy’s Blog. With it came a simple question: “Up for a meme?” My response must be obvious if you’re reading this. I took Martin up on the offer to take the baton and run with it for a bit so without further ado, here goes…
Book Baton
My dad used to tell me that reading was one of those important things that one should do, even if they do nothing else. He was right. There is so much to be gained by the avid reader. What you read has little importance, as long as you’re diverse in your selections and you read to comprehend. Writing a collection or grouping of words is an old and well-tested practice that’ll never go away, and neither will books as the primarly delivery method of those verbose collections. They’re great. No electricity, no internet connection. All that’s needed is a book, and a candle for when the sun goes down. If there is an armegeddon in our future, and if people survive it, you can bet it’ll be books that help them rebuild civilization.
Number of Books on Shelf
I have tons of books collected over the years. Instead of doing an actual count, I have decided to let math be my friend. Books per shelf: ~114, times four shelves, then figure in roughly two dozen books in other places around the house (ahem, bathroom, etc.), and the esitmated total comes to 480.
Last Book Purchased
“The Dark Tower Series, Book VII: The Dark Tower” by Stephen King (ISBN: 1-880418-62-2).
Reading Right Now
“The Dark Tower Series, Book V: Wolves of the Calla” by Stephen King (ISBN: 1-880418-59-2).
Last 5 books read
- “Athabasca” by Alistair MacLean (ISBN: 0-449-24429-6).
- “Point of Impact” by Stephen (”ah”) Hunter (ISBN: 0-552-56351-3).
- “Handling Sin” by Michael Malone (ISBN: 0-671-633-99-6).
- “The Dark Tower Series, Book IV: Wizard and Glass” by Stephen King (ISBN: 0-452-27917-8).
- “In the Heart of the Sea” by Nathaniel Philbrick (ISBN: 0-670-89157-6).
Books that mean a lot to me
All of them. I really enjoy reading Stephen King’s work more than anyone else’s, but all have their merits. I enjoy everything from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling to the deepest of historical biographies.

Hi Mike,
Thank you for passing me the book baton. Despite my opinion on memes, I’m very grateful you passed it to me as I’ve been ill over the weekend, and felt like posting something a bit light-hearted.
Best regards,
