Worldwide email spam volume has grown to unprecedented proportions and something must be done. Something will be. Beginning August 1st, 2008, an action initiated by the International Consortium of Email Regulation (ICER), of Geneva, Switzerland — supported by leaders in all continents — will be effected. Precisely this action will be the application of outbound email charges levied by major telecom and cable communications carriers, billed to users (per email or in bulk mail lots) by Internet Service Providers (ISP), and metered at the mail server level.

JackP came up with the idea of some people publishing a Halloween story. This is mine. I hope you enjoy it. I actually did some light research for this one.

Fear can live and breathe if you give it life in your mind. The longer you think about it and the more you believe in it, the larger it grows and the more real it becomes. That’s what happened in the little town of Grant Heights, to a little boy named Bobby. It was October 31st, 1972. Halloween.

Hey, don’t laugh… this could have been you! Coding’s dangerous.

Sure, you may think coding is all glamor, parties, and chicks, but this story will reveal the dark side.

With his coffee consumed and the sun up, The Coder began to work. Today’s project was a script. A rather involved script he had been putting off for more than a week. The Coder knew he’d be at it all day and probably into the night, but it had to be done — there was no more putting it off, even if he had to spend the entire night in his office as he had done so many times in the past. Stopping midway through it, he knew, would be a mistake. His logic back-trail would evaporate.

The Bigfoot was starting to become indistinct as it made its way into the clouds.

Paul started his trek leaving his car at the country store opposite the Wilson Path trail head. Today he planned to summit Mt. Devon via the Wilson-Devon Ridge trail off of Wilson Path. Paul had years of experience as a mountain climber and hiker, but he knew today he was being especially ambitious. The altitude at the trail head was 1,460 feet above sea level. The summit was 9,355 feet. It was going to be a rough day, but he could do it. It is possible, he reminded himself and set off. He didn’t realize it at the time, but he had forgotten to throw his extra layers in his backpack.

Here’s a piece of fiction that came to me recently — based loosely on the saying “what comes around, goes around” — and I finally got it down on the digital paper I call my blog. It’s a strange multi-first-person tale dished out one scene at a time. I’ve never written a story like this before so I hope you’ll bear with me if I goof. Be warned, there is a small amount of foul language in it. I don’t think it’s usually necessary to get a point across, but it fits here. It’s a little bit on the long side, but I hope you’ll find it worthy of your time and a good read.

The latest music device, the Sony “iMind System,” invented by Sony with the assistance of German neurologist and technologist, Hans Frieh, goes above and beyond what I consider acceptable tech. I think this new tech is invasive and irresponsible. I don’t know what they could’ve been thinking when they decided to move forward with this project but I urge you all to blog about this in hopes of putting a stop to it before things get completely out of hand. Already there have been isolated incidents worth worrying about.
