It’s well known that various browsing devices have their differences in the way CSSs are interpreted. It may seem that these differences are irreconcilable as well at times. Of the various differences the most annoying affects the positioning of various containers such as <divs> and <tables> on the pages. I’m not going to write about that, though. That’s not what this short article is about. Instead I want to mention something all of the browsers have in common, then explain the advantages of its exploitation.

My wife and I grow an incredible bi-color corn in our garden. It’s an awesome hybrid we’ve sown for years. We do it because the taste of this corn far exceeds anything else we’ve tried. It grows well in our area (southern New Hampshire) and it yields a sizable harvest. It seems to handle pests well, too. A great crop. One problem, though: Raccoons. They like our corn as much as we do.

To comply with the requirements of web accessibilities, developers should identify and define any acronyms and abbreviations used in their web documents. Sounds simple, right? Things are not be as they seem. Problems exist which cannot be countered so considerations need to be given and concessions made . The main problem: abbreviations are not supported by Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (MSIE), only acronyms are. But before going into the problems and solutions too far, let’s first determine what’s what as this also seems to be a source of disagreement.
