Beast Blog Theme for WordPress

Posted October 21st, 2005 by Mike Cherim

I have created a theme for WordPress web log users called “Beast Blog.” It’s what you’re seeing here and now. The style has recieved a lot of positive attention and I was asked by members of the WordPress community to make it available as an official WordPress theme release. I made this web log entry specifically to accept comments, complaints, bug reports, whatever Beast Blog related stuff you may have on your mind. If you wish to download this theme for your own use, or to get more information, please check out this permanent Official Beast Blog Theme Information Page.

Introduction to Robots.txt

Posted October 12th, 2005 by Mike Cherim

There’s a little file called robots.txt that you should be aware of. As its name suggests, it’s a file specifically for robots and spiders… the honest ones anyway. It’s a good file to put on your server, if for nothing else than to save some bandwidth. You may be wondering why? Well, I was, too, not very long ago. I became aware pretty quickly, though, when I encountered a genuine need to place this file in the root directory of all my servers’ domains. Recently my hosting company, GBHXonline.com, invested in some new servers. After setting up the stable of hosted sites and the ones I actually manage, I realized I was dealing with something new.

I’m Gonna Do It!

Posted October 8th, 2005 by Mike Cherim

I decided that I am indeed going to re-theme this blog to match Green-Beast.com after all. Moreover, instead of doing it and “launching” a new theme, “I’m just gonna do it.” Live!

Tint Layering

Posted October 7th, 2005 by Mike Cherim

I think I’m pretty good at working with images. From both an aesthetics point-of-view, and when considering optimization. I’ve been working with images a long time and I’m passionate about it so it seems reasonable that I have a high comfort level working with them. But writing about them and writing about making them, as my Imagery & Graphics Category will reveal, is another matter altogether. I’m sorry. I’ll try to do better. Beginning with this new entry I’m calling Tint Layering.

GreenBeast’s PHP Contact Form

Posted October 4th, 2005 by Mike Cherim

There’s been some interest in my PHP contact forms lately as a few people have asked about them. Most notably my latest one, the one on the Contact Page on my portfolio Green-Beast.com has been brought up. I told a few people I’d post it here since there’s interest. Plus, considering how many people have helped me, well, I enjoy the opportunity to give something back.

Shall Me Bloggy Be Dotty?

Posted October 1st, 2005 by Mike Cherim

I redid my Online Portfolio! I’m diggin’ the Spartan look of it. It makes the message stand out. I’m getting good feedback on it from others so far so that’s a good thing. Now I’m considering applying the same theme to this blog — to make it part of the family moreso, so to speak.

Developer’s Toolbar for IE6

Posted September 24th, 2005 by Mike Cherim

I’m not sure if this is going to be news to anyone other than me, but I often float around the web checking out various things and found something pretty interesting over at Microsoft.com of all places. What I found was available from a large list of popular downloads.

Chat > Metamorphosis > Live Support

Posted September 22nd, 2005 by Mike Cherim

On my company’s main website, GreenMethods.com, I decided to implement a new feature using an earlier version of Chategory, a PHP-powered chat application, and a little imagination. The feature: “Live Tech Support.” Less “chat,” more business. No longer is it put to use as a social tool, but now as a tool to help visitors, I’m hoping this’ll be a good usage of this web software. I’m calling it GreenMethods Live.

New Servers, Domain Changes

Posted September 16th, 2005 by Mike Cherim

I’ve just finished moving this weblog to a new server. Not too difficult a task, but the database connection did give a little bit of grief. Yeah, I probably said the… ;)
