Deck Your Blog…

Posted December 1st, 2005 by Mike Cherim

…with boughs of holly, fa-la-la-la-la la-la-la la la!

It’s December. The “holidays” time of year. Anyone have the spirit? Anyone willing to “Deck Your Blog” as I have done with mine? Show me your stuff, show the world your stuff, spread the word, and pass on the link to this article. A meme or baton, perhaps? Yeah, baby, let ‘er rip. Then show me what you’ve done by posting a link to your hot holiday theme here. So, can we turn the internet into a festive place? Why should Google have all the fun? Hang some tinsel, string some lights, or do whatever it is you need to do to show off what makes this time of the year special to you. Let it show, let it show, let it show! :)

Tidying Up The Blog

Posted November 28th, 2005 by Mike Cherim

I hope this’ll make my web log easier to use and enjoy.

I decided it was time to clean up this web log a bit, tidy stuff up. I had only four categories and the number of articles was and is ever-growing. Stuff was going to start getting hard to find outside of the Search feature, if it wasn’t already, so I didn’t do something about it. I have created five new categories in addition to the four I had, and I have split things up. Love this WordPress in that it allows such flexibility. Here are the new categories, the old ones, and a brief explanation of each.

Thanksgetting

Posted November 24th, 2005 by Mike Cherim

I’m into Thanksgiving, I’m aware and grateful. To demonstrate, I think this other article I wrote sums up those feelings well. But sometimes getting thanks is noteworthy too. Case in point, I just got an email from a Beast-Blog Theme user that really made me smile. It reminded me that different people are thankful for different things. I also reminded me of why I like to produce open source stuff like the theme and the GreenBeast CMS. I can tell you it isn’t for the money — there has been none of that stuff involved that’s for sure — but it’s the occasional note like this.

Shall Me Bloggy Be Dotty?

Posted October 1st, 2005 by Mike Cherim

I redid my Online Portfolio! I’m diggin’ the Spartan look of it. It makes the message stand out. I’m getting good feedback on it from others so far so that’s a good thing. Now I’m considering applying the same theme to this blog — to make it part of the family moreso, so to speak.

New Servers, Domain Changes

Posted September 16th, 2005 by Mike Cherim

I’ve just finished moving this weblog to a new server. Not too difficult a task, but the database connection did give a little bit of grief. Yeah, I probably said the… ;)

On and on goes the Book Baton

Posted August 12th, 2005 by Mike Cherim

I was just handed a “Book Baton” from Martin Neczypor, the man behind Neczy’s Blog. With it came a simple question: “Up for a meme?” My response must be obvious if you’re reading this. I took Martin up on the offer to take the baton and run with it for a bit so without further ado, here goes…

GreenMethods.com

GreenMethods.comGreenMethods.com ScreenShot
I just wanted to announce the launch of my company’s site about biological pest control and integrated pest management (IPM). It’s a rather expansive site, but it matches the subject matter to a tee. It, too, is expansive. The site took me about a month-and-a-half to make and that was a period of long hours. It represents half of what I’ve learned about web development (the other half was long ago tossed out the window.)

Lousy Bandits

Posted May 13th, 2005 by Mike Cherim

My wife and I grow an incredible bi-color corn in our garden. It’s an awesome hybrid we’ve sown for years. We do it because the taste of this corn far exceeds anything else we’ve tried. It grows well in our area (southern New Hampshire) and it yields a sizable harvest. It seems to handle pests well, too. A great crop. One problem, though: Raccoons. They like our corn as much as we do.

GBDC Permformance

Posted March 27th, 2005 by Mike Cherim

Since I wanted to make sure Green-Beast.com v.2 was accessible as possible, I extensively optimized the pages. The high-styles, like the default “Beast” style all run about the same. For that style I am posting the perfomrance numbers here, by page (Please note that optimum performance is 8 seconds or less at 56kbs.):
